The Tiffen Smoque filter is a true design of filtration magic created to add atmospheric ambiance to a scene. This simple yet effective filter should not be underestimated, as much of our cinematographic viewing memory is wrapped up in deep rich smoke filled environments. To create this kind of effect in an environment one simply has to reach for a Tiffen Smoque filter, rather than having to wait for the effects team. There can also be a softening effect due to how the light interacts with the subject matter.
The Tiffen 4 x 5.65″ Smoque Filter  can be used to substitute typical theatrical smoke generators such as smoke cookies, chips, pellets, grenades, or aerosols. This filter can also be used to supplement the use of such smoke generators to help provide a consistent appearance of smoke, particularly if wind or other conditions prevent physical smoke from settling or staying within a frame or scene. The use of physical smoke is associated with the release of solid particles into the air. By lessening or eliminating the release of those particles, a more predictable and comfortable photo or film set can be maintained.
The Tiffen 4 x 5.65″ Smoque Filter is constructed from optical glass for clarity as well as color fidelity and is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 4mm-thick, 4 x 5.65″ rectangular filters. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between two pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.
